Action Plan!

After one of my recent Wi-Fi projects, I finally created an action plan to check and constantly improve.
Feel free to contact if You have some thoughts or questions about it!

Pre-deployment

  1. Preparation:
    • Get the customer requirements
    • Get the AP, test everything (APoS kit?), install the controller, make it running and learn how to setup basic parameters (TxPower, Channels, MBR, .11k, hostname broadcast, TxPower information element)
    • Get the floorplans, JustGo is the solution for smaller areas
  2. On site:
    • Ask the people how do they use Wi-Fi, what processes Wi-Fi is involved, where the Wi-Fi is bad, ask for the devices to play with after the survey
    • Ekahau Survey:
      • Measure the whole site, Autopilot if needed
      • Pics of each AP + site notes, remember that You will design later based on your notes. Better delete some notes later than go back or call for help.
    • Ekahau Analyzer, do print screens:
      • channel utilization
      • channel plan
      • SSID details
      • number of STA associated
      • offset of the devices
      • take a short walk with spectrum analyzer
    • WLANPi:
      • Profile the devices
  3. Off Site in the nearby restaurant:
    • Sync with the cloud and/or download from SK, open in AI Pro, check the errors, don’t touch anything, work on a copy
    • Analyze the results, design if needed
    • Save the design file, upload to cloud/SK, open from those locations and check the errors
    • Make the print screen with a location of a designed APs
  4. Back On Site:
    • Take the APoS kit and validate with known, fixed, designed parameters
    • Take the pictures of an APoS in every location – future guidance for the installators
    • If something You were missing during the design, do it now
    • Sync with cloud/SK before shutting down
    • Mobile phone:
      • Analiti – measure few locations, do shots with Analyzer on the same screen
      • Run 3CX and walk through the site
  5. Reporting:
    • Save the raw file , don’t overwrite
    • Prepare/modify template for the whole project
    • Combine radios, name the APs according to the documentation, color and tag My measured, APoS and simulated APs, mark My networks
    • Create channel plan for existing APs as a quick fix until rebuild
    • Attach mounting pics taken from APoS documentation

Post-deployment

  1. Preparation:
    • Ekahau AI Pro:
      • Move old surveys to secondary (Survey App don’t see the difference, better to delete but then Autopilot when map isn’t accurate)
  2. On site:
    • Ekahau Survey:
      • Measure the whole site, without pictures, let the app place the APs in a correct locations
    • Ekahau Analyzer, do print screens:
      • channel utilization
      • channel plan
      • SSID details
      • number of STA associated
      • take a short walk with spectrum analyzer
  3. Off Site in the nearby restaurant:
    • Sync AI Pro with Cloud/SK, save the raw file
    • Delete secondary surveys
    • Move APs where designed
  4. Back On Site
    • Take the picture of each AP, labels and mounting. Remove old pictures for reused APs
    • Move APs where are located in real, make notes if needed
    • Double check if all the pictures are in place.
    • Sync with Cloud/SK
  5. Reporting
    • Save the raw file , don’t overwrite
    • Prepare/modify template for the whole project
    • Combine radios, name the APs according to the documentation, color and tag My measured, mark My networks
